Lenard Marcus

General Partner

Lenard is responsible for leading Edison investments in companies primarily located in the mid-Atlantic area. Lenard co-leads healthcare IT investments and leads Edison’s security practice. Lenard is active in the Mid-Atlantic venture community serving as a board member for the Maryland Venture Fund and Greater Baltimore Technology Council.

Lenard began his career at IBM where he worked as a Financial Analyst for IBM Global Services. His main responsibilities were overseeing a budget of $80 million and partnering with international locations to decrease the project costs of IBM Global Services West. Later, Lenard worked for Princeton eCom—an online bill payment company—where, as Manager of B2C Implementations; he oversaw one of the largest joint ventures in the company’s history. Lenard later led B2C Product Development at Princeton eCom prior to earning his MBA. Lenard also worked in healthcare investment banking for Wachovia Securities.

In my youth, I had the opportunity to travel to Japan on an all-star baseball team.

My three boys are starting to get into sports…so at home right now I'm a coach/teacher/trainer.

Edison Origin Story

Chris Sugden and I worked together at Princeton Ecomm before he joined Edison. Following business school, I reached out to him for advice on a job offer I had in hand. Chris' response, "We're hiring. Why aren't we talking?"

First job

I worked at ChiChi's Mexican restaurant in Baltimore. I quickly learned how candid and surly people can be. Three weeks in, I had enough.
