Electrifying Growth Episode 10: Mentorship & Grit in High-Growth Companies with Amy Kadomatsu

Written by Chris Sugden | 5/12/2023

Amy Kadomatsu, CEO of COMPLY, is a trailblazer in the world of high-growth technology companies. With a background in investment banking, e-commerce, and fintech, Amy has proven her grit and determination time and time again. As CEO, she led COMPLY (formerly ComplySci) through rapid growth and transformation. Her ability to adapt and think on her feet has been vital in her journey from Harvard graduate to top of her field. Episode 10 features her  impressive journey, dedication to mentorship, ability to embrace change, and relentless focus on achieving goals.

Two Way Mentor-Mentee Relationships are Vital

Amy doesn't believe in one-sided mentorship. "I think that there is this view that as a mentor, it's all about you espousing this wisdom onto the other person, and truly I believe that the best kind of relationships are also how much you as a mentee are pushing your mentor." There is always more to learn. Amy encourages us not to get caught up in hierarchy formalities.

Expectations Aren't Reality

Managing Partner and Host Chris Sugden asks Amy how to define the expectations the world has set for us. She describes their position as an arc.

"What you're trying to achieve is going from point A to point B. There are mechanics. If you don't know what point A is and you don't know what point B is, then... you can't work backwards from point B to where you are today." Understanding expectations is only half the battle.  Educating your team on realistic expectations is equally important.

Amy is a driven team leader. When asked whether she believes in luck, she responds, "You have to work hard to be lucky." Isn't that the truth. For more of Amy's journey to CEO, subscribe to Electrifying Growth!
